Killer audio demonstration of FLUX:FX – thanks Florent!

OK – so Florent Roux is an amazing guitarist, that is clear, but what we also love is how he embraces technology and sound design. In this extended demo you can hear him really exploring the boundaries of the FLUX:FX app, going from the subtle and tasteful Sultans of Swing riffs, into some sublime ambience, into some face-puckering noise. Awesome on every level.

In other news, we are well aware of the 64bit issue that Apple is raising in the new operating system updates, and we are currently looking at our options here. Stay tuned, and thanks to everyone who has contacted us so far with the question. It is great to know you are all still using the app!

‘FLUX:FX play’ is LIVE! Now you can get the award-winning FLUX:FX audio manipulation engine on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

YES!

Introducing ‘FLUX:FX play‘ – the creative effects app for your iPhone from NOIISE and Adrian Belew. Now you can get the award-winning FLUX:FX audio manipulation engine on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Here is the info:

NOIISE and Adrian Belew have announced the release of the professional multi-effects processor app FLUX:FX play, available for iPhone and iPod Touch.

Built on the same Red-Dot awarded audio platform as the master FLUX:FX iPad app, FLUX:FX play has been made as a tool for creative musicians and sound designers to manipulate an audio signal into something new, both in the studio and on stage.

Suitable for guitar, vocals, bass, synth, drums, DJ setups, violin, essentially any instrument or sound source can be processed in real-time via the intuitive touchscreen interface of FLUX:FX play, and there are 282 performance presets to choose from.

Some key features of FLUX:FX play:

  • 31 individual effects blocks are built-in to the app engine, with up to 5 chained together within the performance presets.
  • A step sequencer is programmed into many of the performance presets, adding a fluid dimension to the sound.
  • FLUX:FX play has a minimalist interface with easy-to-use controls.
  • Audiobus compatibility, Inter-App Audio compatibility, MIDI.
  • FLUX:FX play features very low-latency settings to give truly professional performance capabilities.
  • FLUX:FX play does not have the deep editing of the effects that is a feature of the full FLUX:FX app, but performance presets can be created and edited in the iPad app and then ported into FLUX:FX play.

Price: $4.99 in the App Store.

And if you love it, leave us a great review! If you have feedback/comments/questions, send it to info@noii.se and we will get back to you ASAP.

Hope you love it as much as we do! Here is some footage of Adrian & friends making some truly obnoxious sounds with the app. Rest assured that it makes beautiful sounds too… this vid is just to show some of the weirdness that it is capable of!

Submission

Hi all,
so… an apology is in order. We have been promising FLUX:FX for a while now, and missed a couple of proposed deadlines along the way. There have been a number of reasons, not least our own eagerness to keep tweaking and adding features! Right now we have come up against an App Store submission issue that we are working with Apple engineers to resolve. This is frustrating, but we expect a resolution this coming week. This does not mean the app will be available immediately, but it means that it goes into the Apple review process. We will keep you posted as soon as we have more info on a release date.
In other news, Adrian Belew has built the FLUX:FX iPad app into his ridiculously large and complex live rig, and he is using it on his current North American tour. If you really can’t wait for the app, go see it in use at one of his gigs:

12/5 Carborro, NC Cats Cradle

When can I get my grubby mitts on FLUX:FX?

FLUX:FX is in beta… we are ready to go, just in the final round of testing and creating an awesome set of performances/presets/sequences. There are quite a few feature upgrades which we already have on the list but won’t be making it into the first release [we could keep going for another year with all the ideas we want to incorporate], but it is time to unleash the beast.

We expect FLUX:FX to be submitted to the Apple App Store end of November.

FLUX:FX exclusive [pre]-launch event featuring Adrian Belew in Amsterdam

https://www.facebook.com/events/684113554975155/

On the 29th of July 2014, at the famous concert venue the Paradiso AmsterdamMobGen and NOIISE will host a private event launching a professional audio iPad app called FLUX:FX – a collaboration between MOBGEN, audio experts Elephantcandy and Adrian Belew, one of the world’s most influential guitarists. Adrian Belew has recorded and performed with Frank Zappa, Paul Simon, Talking Heads, David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails. He was also a fundamental member of the progressive rock-band King Crimson, and is acknowledged as one of the most inventive and abstract musicians in the industry.

This Dutch/American creative collaboration has produced some ground-breaking results which we will share with you along with some unique performances. Adrian Belew himself will be there to demonstrate the app, assisted by special guests.

The event will introduce FLUX:FX – a professional multi-effect audio processor app for the iPad that lets you ‘play’ your effects. Innovative, intuitive and exciting, FLUX:FX lets you manipulate any audio signal into something entirely new, redefining the possibilities of audio and live performance in an app with an almost unlimited range of effect options.

It’s like the best parts of my favourite studio and live effect units, mashed together.
Daniel Rowland – Audio engineer/producer/musician – the online audio school

“Stupidly fun and addictive, but also with incredible sound quality and editing precision. Take one effect – The equalizer. It is like a surgical scalpel, and you can even chain 5 of them together to create a super EQ. That alone is more than worth the price of admission. But when you add on the waveshaping functions of the decimate and destroy modules then things really start getting serious.

If you are looking for that creamy Marshall or classic Fender twin tone… you are in the wrong place. This is a pure digital processor app. It is not attempting to replicate or copy vintage analogue effects – FLUX:FX is about redesigning your sound and creating something completely new. Although most of the effect names are familiar, they can be used and abused in ways far beyond their traditional namesakes. Traditional ‘safe’ settings of effects have been ignored so that the users can really push the boundaries.”

Sound-engineering mastermind Daniel Rowland is a renowned authority in studio production, audio hardware/software, recording techniques and sound design. He makes noises, pushes faders and teaches others how to do the same as a lecturer at MTSU. Daniel is the lord commander of Adrian’s massively complex guitar rig, and the designer and gatekeeper of Studio Belew.
